On August 19, 2007 Jamaica was hit by Hurricane Dean, a powerful category-4 storm. Torrential rain and strong winds with maximum gusts of 145 mph created large-scale devastation. The hurricane destroyed houses and livelihoods in the eastern and southern parishes of the country. Electricity and water supply across the entire island was affected.
KC was fortunate. Some other schools were not as lucky.
At the time of this report, Monday, September 10, 2007, power and water had been restored to most of the island and teachers were already reporting to school for duty. The students were to report on Tuesday, September 11.
320 new students are expected to grace the portals of the school for the New Year and approximately nine new teachers were also expected to join the faculty.
